　postfix ソースアーカイブの src/local/maildir.c には

とあるので、名前の付け方は qmail と同じではないでしょうか。
　私は試したことがないのではっきりしたことは言えませんが、これまでに
問題があったという話は聞いたことがありません。また、qmail から
Postfix に移行したという話はよく聞くので、おそらく Maildir に
関しても問題ないのではないかと思います。
　やってみて出来たら報告してくれるとうれしいです(^^)

　今回のとは関係ありませんが、Postfix の場合はわざわざホーム
ディレクトリに Maildir/ を作らなくても、配送時に作ってくれるという
メリットもありますね。
